Volodymyr Perepeliuk
(1910–2000)
Volodymyr Maksymovych Perepeliuk was a kobzar, bandurist, composer, folk craftsman, and writer. He was born in 1910 in the village of Boryshkivtsi, today in the Kamianets-Podilskyi district of the Khmelnytskyi region.
Perepeliuk studied the kobza with famous kobzar Yevhen Movchan. For over twenty-six years, he performed as a bandura soloist in the State Ukrainian Folk Choir led by Hryhorii Veriovka. Perepeliuk was the author of many well-known songs and dumas that are often today considered part of the folk tradition.
After retiring, he worked as a forester in the Voronovytsia forest district. It was during this period that he also became known as the author of interesting children’s stories about the lives of animals and birds.
Volodymyr Perepeliuk died July 3, 2000 and was buried in the town of Voronovytsia in the Vinnytsia region. The Strings of Eternity celebration of the art of the kobzar was founded in his name.
