Vasyl Mykhailovych Martyshchuk (b. 1943 in the village of Snidavka, Kosiv district, Ivano-Frankivsk region) is a master builder of the unique Hutsul fiddle. Martyshchuk came up with his own artistic method to create the authentic Hutsul folk fiddle, an instrument best suited to playing Hutsul folk melodies. His fiddle is also called the “Martyshchuk Hutsul fiddle.” His brother, Mykola, lives in the village of Snidavka, where he builds quality Hutsul tsymbaly, a Ukrainian version of the hammer dulcimer.

Their grandfather, Mykola Medvidchuk (Dupachuk), a native of the village of Richka, was also a famous folk artisan who made Hutsul fiddles, which he could also play. Their father, Mykhailo Martyshchuk, was a talented woodworker who also restored Hutsul fiddles.
