Mykola Lytvyn (1943–2020)

Mykola Lytvyn, born in the village of Fedorivka in the Kirovohrad region, is a bandurist, composer, journalist, writer, and social activist. 

He graduated from the Lviv Conservatory and worked in the Chernihiv and Ternopil conservatories. In 1965 he was arrested for “anti-Soviet propaganda.” After this difficult period in his life, he became a soloist at the Kyiv Orchestra of Folk Instruments, taught at the Sumy Music College, and worked as an editor on the arts and literature desk of the magazine Ukraine and other publications. Starting in 2000, he gave many performances on the bandura. He sang “The Enslaved One’s Cry,” “About the Three Azovsky Brothers,” “About a Cossack Bandurist,” “Storm on the Black Sea,” historical songs, and his own compositions. He wrote poetry and prose.
